Susanna, a teenager growing up in the late 1960s, doesn't know where she belongs. She's too crazy for her parents' refinement, and she's too sane for Claymoore, the mental institution to which she is committed. Strangely, she starts to feel at home at Claymoore, whose disturbed inhabitants include a charismatic sociopath, a bulimic daddy's girl and a self-willed burn victim.
