An early cinematic battle cry from the Angry Young Men generation, Room at the Top is a gripping story of class division and unfettered ambition in the north of England. Joe Lampton arrives in a Yorkshire town to take up a place in the Borough Treasury Department, but aims to elevate his position by any means possible. In doing so, he sets his sights on Susan, the pretty daughter of a local industrialist. When Susan's father intervenes, Joe finds solace in the arms of an older woman.
